Peer inside the new sunlit WNDO located at the corner of a nondescript, aluminum-sided warehouse at 4th and Vernon and discover something old, new, borrowed and Jim Budman's signature sunnies in blue.
The multi-purpose creative space is the collaborative effort of Budman, a fixture in the Venice art scene for more than 20 years, and partners Bisco Smith and Dfalt, emerging artists who've gained notoriety on the east coast and are now setting roots in L.A. In addition to showcasing their own works, they're somewhat of an Airbnb for visiting artists, events and whatever else inspires them. The cavernous, three-story space currently houses the studios of Rachel Bujowski, 3.1 Magazine and the Mirror, Mirror Project.
It's a fresh perspective from different generations of artists who seek inspiration amidst the rapid transformation of the neighborhood around them – especially with the increasing presence of technology, the culture it inspires, and the artistry within it.
The opening reception for their new show Systematic debuts tonight at 7 p.m. and is available for viewing through September 30. It incorporates mix media work and installations exploring social and philosophical systems of space, balance, and tension.
